From our Interim Pastor . . . the Rev. Larry Spomer
On Times in Between.
(May)
I attended a "tent" meeting the first week in April. Billed as the largest tractor auction in the world, the seven day event displayed elements of a "revival" os sorts. Prayer offered by the widow opened the auction. One auctioneer picked up the evangelical flavor by punctuating purchases with an "amen" praise the Lord .... and even a blessing following a purchase of considerable sum. (I suspect he was thankful for the increase in his commission.) He did know how to work a crowd.
One of the auctioneers was female, thus the event was gender tolerant. It even had an international flavor using the internet together with collectors from all states (except Maine and Hawaii).
The last evening (auction went until 4:30 a.m.) the fellowship gathered were treated to a round of coffee or hot chocolate, which was followed a bit later with a slice of pizza. I wonder if this was to compliment the endurance of those in attendance, or to appease those wounded financially?
I did not attend every day, though I did buy something every day I attended. Sometimes it was only lunch!
I wore the cap presented to me on Easter Sunday, which committed me to a particular part of the camp. I also thank the congregation for the meal certificate, which I will use to calm the waters with my partner!
Thanks for your understanding and support:
